Bouvet Island is an uninhabited volcanic island located in the South Atlantic Ocean. The island was first spotted on 1 January 1739 by Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier and was later named Bouvet Island. Since 1971 it is a nature reserve.
