Johnston Atoll is located in the North Pacific Ocean and was used during the 1950s and 1960s as an American nuclear weapons test site. In 2004 the military base was closed.

Johnston Island is currently under control of civilian authorities, although due its nuclear past a travel destination you cannot easily visit.
